With the advances in the neonatal care very tiny babies are surviving now a days. Most of these babies are preterm and low birth weight and need to be kept in NICU for a longer duration and undergo lots of interventions and stresses.
To provide optimal care to these babies after birth , mimicking in-utero environment , Indian Academy of Pediatrics started a scientific workshop ,”Cradle to Crayons and Beyond’ in 2016.
The department of Pediatrics, PIMS conducted such a workshop at PIMS on 27th May, 2017 for pediatricians from Punjab. The sessions included developmentally supportive care in NICU aimed at providing care to the babies similar to in-utero environment. It was followed by identification and follow-up of high risk babies to minimize morbidities and complications. Understanding normal development for 0 to 6 years babies, red flag signs, developmental assessment and autism were also covered. The sessions were followed by hands on workshop for tone assessment and use of screening tools.
