Awards and Achievements

Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences, Jalandhar , won ‘Best Educational Institution’ award from President of India Sh. Ram Nath Kovind for recognition of its outstanding and exemplary services in the field of Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse in the state of Punjab in June 2018.

Dr. Kulbir Kaur, Director Principal, PIMS has been awarded with Life Time Achievement Award by Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immuno-Haematology at Patiala in year 2014. She is member of National Advisory Board of Asian Journal of Transfusion Science and is also reviewer of Asian Journal of Transfusion Science. She has authored a chapter entitled “Evidence based transfusion medicine” in the book named “Update on Transfusion Medicine”. She has pioneered horizontal and vertical teaching for MBBS students in PIMS, which has proved to be an effective way of learning. She also has been honored with variety of other awards like:

Dr. Rajiv Arora, Vice Principal – Academics has pioneered the first basic MET workshop at PIMS conducted from 9th to 11th October, 2014 (20 faculty members were trained under MCI nodal centre for faculty development, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana). He is also undergoing MCI Fellowship in Medical Education, 2015 – A Batch.

Dr. Harmesh Singh Bains, Professor and Head, Pediatrics Department has been nominated as Executive Board Member (North zone) of National Adolescent Health Academy 2019–2020. He served as President of Adolescent Health Academy of Punjab from 2013 to 2015. Also, he is an executive member of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (2015–2016). He is reviewer of multiple journals like Journal of Vector Born Diseases, National Journal of Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Indian Paediatrics, Journal of Vector Born Diseases, etc.

Dr. Jatinder, Associate Professor, Pediatrics has been elected as President Jalandhar Academy of Pediatrics 2019–2020. He holds a fellowship in Neonatology “IAP” 2011.

Dr. Anuradha Bansal, Assistant Professor, Pediatrics cleared RCPCH exam and became a member of Royal College of Pediatrics & Child Health, London UK in January 2018.

Dr. Anju Gupta, Professor & Head, Department of Forensic Medicine won Badminton doubles of IMA Punjab State Open Badminton Tournament on 7th October 2018.

Dr. Sheevani, Professor, Department of Microbiology won “IMA Jalandhar Badminton Tournament” in female doctor’s category on 18th November 2018.

Dr. Pushpendra Magon, Professor, Pediatrics authored a textbook named “Pearls in Clinical Paediatrics” published by Jaypee Brothers, New Delhi.

Dr. Promila Jindal, Head of Department, Obstetrics & Gynaecology is regular member of FOGSI (Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Societies of India), Patiala chapter since 1986. She is executive member of Academic Committee of Indian Fertility Society, Punjab Chapter (2014–2015). She presented a paper “Quality of life hysterectomy for cervical cancer – a descriptive study” at 15th Biennial meeting of International Gynecological Cancer Society (IGCS-2014), Melbourne, Australia from 8th to 11th November 2014. She also presented a paper on “Evaluation of NST at admission in high risk pregnancy and its correlation with fetal outcome” at 23rd Asian & Oceanic Congress of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Bangkok (20th–23rd Oct 2013).

Dr. Shally Magon, Professor, Obstetrics & Gynaecology has authored a textbook of Midwifery and Obstetrics (IIIrd edition) published in year 2012.

Dr. H.K. Cheema, Associate Professor, Obstetrics & Gynaecology is chairperson of Women Wing – IMA (Indian Medical Association), Jalandhar Chapter (2013–2014, 2014–2015). She has also done certified courses like:

Dr. Harvinder Kumar, Professor & Head, ENT was awarded Best Dissector Award in 100th Temporal Bone Dissection Course & Facial N. Symposium at Nanavati Hospital organized from 23rd to 25th August 2014. He is reviewer of ENT column of Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research.

Dr. Himanshu Sareen, Associate Professor & Head, Psychiatry has co-authored a study on psycho-sexual disorders amongst patients of opioid dependence (Approved by ICMR).

Dr. Jaspal Kaur, Associate Professor, Microbiology was honored as valued Reviewer and contributor to the quality and success of International Journal of Microbiology Research – Bioinfo Publications.
