PIMS celebrated International Women’s Day with a CME on ‘Women Health Issues’ jointly organized by Department of Community Medicine & Department of Gynae & Obstetrics, PIMS. The CME aimed at educating people towards gender equality and women empowerment and creating awareness about the health related issues faced by women. Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Resident Director, PIMS, Dr. Kulbir Kaur, Director Principal, PIMS, President FOGSI, Dr. Amita Sharma, Dr. Kamal Gupta and Dr. Kapil Gupta, member, Punjab Medical Council inaugurated the CME with a lamp lighting ceremony followed by a Nukkad Natak in which the MBBS students left the audience spellbound with their performance. Later, the eminent women who have achieved laurels in their respective fields of work were honoured. President FOGSI Dr. Amita Sharma, Dr. Kamal Gupta, Mrs. Parminder Beri, General Secretary, Sanjeevani, Dr.Kulbir Kaur, Director Principal, PIMS, Brig. Ms. R. K. Sudan, Nursing Superintendent, PIMS and Dr. Promila Jinda, HOD, Dept. of Gynae & Obstetrics, PIMS were felicitated during the meet. Various discussions on prevailing health issues were held during the CME. Dr. Harinder Singh, HOD, Dept. of Community Medicine, PIMS highlighted the Millennium Development Goals and the mportance of women and child health. Following this, Dr. Promila Jindal discussed about reducing maternal mortality in India. Further, Dr. Harshdeep Joshi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine, PIMS gave an absorbing presentation on women empowerment in different strata of society. Dr. H.K. Cheema, Associate Professor, Dept. of Gynae and Obstetrics, PIMS educated the audience about the importance of early cancer screening and tests. Poster making competition was also organised and the winners were awarded with prizes.
